The ICC got it wrong this week when they agreed to change the result from The Oval Test match in 2006 to a draw. I'm pleased as a Pakistani but it wasn't right.
My sympathies have always been with Pakistan over that match because they would probably have won it. It was sad the way the match finished as it was heading for a lovely finish with England behind but fighting back.
However the laws say that whoever forfeits the Test is the loser and the umpires awarded the match to England as a forfeit so I don’t think the laws should be challenged.
The ICC are messing with the game too much. I fear they have set a bad precedent here. Whenever there is unpleasantness in future, teams will make a challenge after this decision.
Ok, Pakistan certainly didn’t deserve to lose this Test and I am pleased for Pakistan, of course I am.
But Darrell Hair has been dealt with by the ICC, the matter had been forgotten and everyone had moved on and I don’t agree with dredging up these matters and setting bad principles.
It was the same when India pressurised the ICC into punishing Steve Bucknor a few months ago – that was also wrong and set a bad precedent.
Mushtaq Mohammed played 57 Test matches for Pakistan between 1959 and 1979. He is one of the country's most respected captains.
